Ezziepawhad wondered back to camp, she leaned in the nursery and called out, "Stormkit! Come out I have something to tell you."
Ezziepaw knew that Stormkit always was eager to listen to stories about anything excitig that had happened. Ezziepaw had occasionally gone and told him about what life was like around the boundaries of camp. To her surprise, Stormkit didn't come out. She leaned in, his scent was there, but it was almost stale, so he must have left not long after she went to training.
Ezziepaw backed out and noticed small pawprints in a trail of dirt which headed for the exit. Ezziepaw kept her head down as she followed them, the prints stopped a little outside the camp and instead, there was a small puddle of blood.
Ezziepaw's eyes widened in fear as she pricked her ears, straining them to pick out any noise. She could pick out a light squeal for help. "Stormkit!" Ezziepaw gasped as she bolted towards the squeak. She found Stormkit, he was weak and hiding in a gap in the stone wall.
Ezziepaw began to take a step forward but a strong smell of badger came to her. She then froze in fear as a badger turned from the gap. It was obviously trying to reach Stormkit, but he was small enough to fit and too far back for the badger to get him.
Ezziepaw growled deeply in her throat, "Leave him alone!" She arched her back and her legs stiffened. Her pelt rose along her spine as Ezzipaw prepared for battle. The badger didn't take the hint, it began to lumber towards her. Ezziepaw swiped thin air as a warning, she still hissed at it, but was frightened greatly at this creature that she wasn't sure how powerful it was.
The badger jumped at her, it grabbed her by her tail, biting hard. Ezziepaw yowled in fury and pain as she swiped the badger, slashing it's neck. The badger went for a blow on Ezziepaw's flank but she moved and instead the badger got her rear leg, which caused her to lower herself more. The badger was about to come down on Ezziepaw for she was too weak to swipe at it. She hissed but somehow a grey blur flashed past, "Stormkit! No!"
Stormkit yowled and hissed angrily at the badger as he leaped at it's neck. He used his outstreatched paw, claws unsheathed, to swipe the badger's neck. The badger was now bleeding in more places then it wanted for it turned and left quickly.
Ezziepaw looked at Stormkit, a flash of relief in her eyes. Stormkit padded over, his coat had dried blood but his bleeding had stopped. "I thought no one would come," Stormkit meowed softly, his voice crackling a little from calling. He pressed his muzzle into Ezziepaw's flank. "I didn't want you to die." He finished, taking a step back.
Ezziepaw slowly got to her feet, Stormkit leaned against her to support her. "I was supossed to be saving you." She purred in amusement. Stormkit sighed, "I just wanted to ask you something, but you were gone, then that thing attacked me from the side, I ran and ran until I was in that rock."
Ezziepaw replied, "You saved me... I owe you one."
Stormkit purred, "The stories you tell me are enough."
Together the tw cats padded back to camp and towards the medicine cat's den.
